Senior Showcase

On May 6, the DMA annual senior showcase took place. This is where the seniors present their final projects to friends, family and the DMA faculty. As always, both the gallery and showcase were inspirational. Advertisements

Green Screen Exercise

The goal for this exercise was to remove the green screen from the scene and have the dancer be on a completely new background. To get rid of the green screen, I played around with the keylight effect’s balance and gain. While that got the job done of removing the green screen, there are still a bit of obvious issues, such as the green still being kind of visible on the dancers tights and the visibility of the borders.

Shadow Exercise

The effect we explored for this class was shadows. First, we created a white solid. Second, we made a text layer in any color. Last, we added a spotlight, which gave the word we made a shadow effect. To get a full view of the effect, the light was rotated on both the X and Y axis.

Parallax Exercise 2

We continued exploring the parallax effect in the next class since the effect was a bit confusing to some of the class. I personally had difficulties understanding the effect but it got easy after a while. For this exercise, I did the same thing I did for the last parallax exercise, which was moving the background to the right while moving the foreground to the front. The difference between this parallax exercise and the one before is that I scaled the background up for the last one and for this one I scaled the foreground up.

Parallax Exercise 1

For this class, we learned about the parallax effect, which is when the background moves at a slower pace while the foreground moves a bit faster, creating a 3D effect. To achieve this, I had the background increase in size and moved it to the right, while I moved the dancer to the left and only slightly increased her size.

Puppet Pin Exercise

For this class, we had to use the puppet pin tool to animate this lovely creature. I decided to add a little humor to him by making it look like he’s nudging someone and telling them to look elsewhere. Getting it to do this was pretty simple because, if done right, the puppet pin will move the desired piece without much of a problem to the desired area.

Blobbylize Exercise

For this class, we had to choose an effect and just play around with it to see how it works. I chose blobbylize because it seemed interested and this was my end result. I kept it simple and just had it kind of pulse for a second before forming into the full image.
