As a project, we had to construct a face mask. Through observation, we had to draw the face mask as accurate as possible with appropriate shading.
Why do you think you drew the mask instead of looking in the mirror and drawing your face?
There’s many possible reasons of why we drew a mask rather than looking in the mirror and drawing our face. I think the main reason for this is because, with a mask, there’s more details that can be achieved rather than just simply staring in the mirror. Also, designing our own masks improves our craftsmanship.
What do you need to improve?
I think I need to improve on the shape and size aspect. The shape I try to go for never comes out the way intended. For example, the shape of the mask I drew is clearly a little different from the shape of the mask I constructed. Size wise, I feel the mask drawing could’ve been larger. I have difficulties in drawing big. However, I am working on it.
What is the strong points of your drawing?
I think I did well on the shading aspects of the drawing. I paid a lot of attention to that since it played such a crucial role. Using charcoal and the cloth found in the art kit, I added the shaded areas to the drawing, attempting to make it as accurate as possible. I think I achieved that.
I think the purpose of this project was clear, as it is the same as the purpose for every project given in this course; To improve our artistic skills. I think this project helped me grow artistically. Not only did it improve my craftsmanship, but it improved my shading.
